2021 Citroen C3 Aircross update brings more comfort, simplified interior and new tech

Citroen has revealed a midlife update for its C3 Aircross compact SUV, bringing refreshed styling and comfort technology borrowed from the brand’s larger cars.

The quirky looking crossover retains its individual styling but has what Citroen calls an upscaled, more mature and assertive appearance. In layman’s terms that means more prominent body cladding around the wheel arches, more pronounced roof rails, front and rear skid plates, increased ground clearance and bigger wheels.

The front has also been refreshed with an all-new grille, bumper and lighting arrangement that adds some sharper edges to the previously bubbly styling and give the appearance (but not reality) of a higher bonnet.

Inside, the C3 Aircross has been redesigned to be simpler and more user friendly and to adopt the Advance Comfort seats already found in the C5 Aircross. These feature different densities of foam in different areas and offer more padding and support for improved long-distance comfort.

For 2021 the centre console has been redesigned with a new multimedia touchscreen and a larger central storage bin that can be reached from the front and rear seats. The rear bench now splits and slides, offering between 410 and 520 litres of boot space with the seats in place and up to 1,289 with the rear seats folded.

The new nine-inch touchscreen system is among the updated technology for 2021. It features a higher resolution than before, Citroen’s online Connect Nav functions and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring. Wireless phone charging and Citroën Connect Assist are available as optional extras.

Other high-tech features which have trickled down for larger models include a colour head-up display, auto-dipping headlights, speed sign recognition and recommendation and active safety braking. Keyless entry and start, parking assist and a rear view camera are among the options, along with the Grip Control torque management for slippy conditions and hill descent assist.

The engine line-up for the front-wheel-drive C3 Aircross remains the same, with two petrol and one diesel option. The PureTech petrol is available in 109bhp tune with a six-speed manual gearbox or in 128bhp form with a six-speed automatic. The BlueHDi diesel offers 109bhp and uses a six-speed manual.
