Beamish Museum is fully reopen and looking forward to welcoming half-term visitors as it prepares to host events from a car rally to candle making.

Paul Foster, its historic events officer, said: “There’s lots to see and do at Beamish during the local May Half Term, including transport, traditional craft demonstrations, music, Coronation celebrations and a fun family trail – there’ll be plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

“All events and activities have been carefully planned so that they are Covid-19 Secure and there are various measures in place across the museum to ensure a fantastic family day out.”

The last days of a Meet the Georgians event will run this weekend, with musicians to play on Bank Holiday Monday.

Displays by The Old 68th Durham Light Infantry Society and Display Team will be held on the 1820s Landscape, where members hold explosive musket-firing demonstrations.

Also on Saturday, May 29, will be the Eastern European Car Rally, organised by the Wartburg Trabant IFA Club and held on the Events Field.

The 1820s Pockerley Waggonway will operate steam train rides for the first time since the museum’s first closure due to coronavirus.

Rides will be limited to one compartment per household/support bubble and masks must be worn.

The Colliery Railway will run on Monday and the Friends of Beamish will operate historic vehicles from Tuesday, June 1, to Friday, June 4.

From Wednesday, June 2, to Sunday, June 6, 1950s royal celebrations will be held in the Welfare Hall to mark the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953.

On the weekend of June 5 and 6, visitors can make a party hat, create a commemorative medallion and take part in party games.

A flower trail will also be set up, with 20 to spot and forms available from the museum’s website.

Rides will run at the Fairground, while for half term only, visitors can go inside Garden Cottage – home of the Land Girls – at The 1940s Farm.

Tickets for admission must be booked via www.beamish.org.uk and are available up to Sunday, June 20.
