Platform 33 will be dog friendly, offering a daily carvery, all-you-can-eat breakfast and entertainment each night, including pub quizzes and live music.

There are also potential plans to expand the outdoor area.

“We just wanted a complete revamp. We want people to come in and think ‘this is the place to go in South Shields’,” said general manager, David Wardle.

“It will essentially be two venues in one. The day time will be about families and dog walkers, while at night it will be a thriving place to come for a drink.”

Bosses have high hopes for the pub, following the success of The Promenade.

David continued: “I think it could not only be one of the best places in South Shields but in the North East. I can’t think of anywhere that would compare, especially in terms of location.”

He added: “We want to mimic the Promenade but on a scale five times the size.

“It feels achievable, we have been doing this for years and everyone is passionate about what we do. We’re just ready and eager to get going.”

The project has created a number of jobs for local residents and has held several recruitment open days over the last few months.

While most of the managerial roles have been filled, they are still looking to fill around 15 positions including bar staff and glass collectors most of which will be on a part-time basis.
