Whether you are looking forward to a post-lockdown meal around Wearside or up in Northumberland, there are plenty of top quality places to eat at. All of these restaurants have been included in the guide and some have even been awarded the coveted Michelin star.
13. Haveli, Ponteland
Michelin say: "Haveli means ‘grand house’ and this neighbourhood restaurant is certainly very smart. Influences come from all over India; try one of the chef’s signature curries. Staff combine personality with professionalism." Photo: Google Photo: Google
14. Rat Inn, Anick, Hexham
Michelin say: "Set in a small hillside hamlet is this traditional 18C drovers’ inn with wooden beams, an open range and a multi-level garden boasting arbours and Tyne Valley views. The daily changing menu showcases good quality produce in interesting dishes; the Northumberland rib of beef ‘for two or more’ is a must." Photo: Google Photo: Google
15. Hjem, Northumberland
Michelin say: "The setting in an English country inn might seem slightly at odds with the Nordic food but Ally and Alex’s first business together has been a hit from the start – so much so that securing a table isn’t easy. "Ally is from Northumbria and Alex from Sweden, and Hjem – which means ‘home’ in both their dialects – blends their lives together seamlessly. Precise, original cooking combines a handful of local ingredients with Scandinavian techniques and an element of finesse." Hjem is also the first restaurant in Northumberland to receive a Michelin Star. Photo: Hjem Photo: Hjem
16. Potted Lobster, Bamburgh
Michelin say: "A sweet, homely bistro hung with dramatic local seascapes; sit outside for a view of the majestic castle. Classic dishes come in large portions. Check the blackboard for the latest catch; the squid and oysters are must-tries." Photo: Google Photo: Google
