Martin ‘Marty’ Green shared a wonderful insight into Norwegian life as the country prepares for a massive FIFA World Cup quarter final clash with England.

‘They are going crazy for it,” said Marty who also told us: “There are massive screens everywhere.”

He described the scenes for Norway’s game against Brazil yesterday as ‘epic’ and added: “Even the Royal Family is watching the football.”

“The atmosphere is electric but it’s not a cheap night out if you want to watch the football in Norway,” said Marty who lives in the Stavanger area.

‘The price of beer is something like £14 for a half a litre. You need to be taking about £150 out with you for a good night out.”

Marty added: “Norway is a very special place and we are part of that society. It is a very clean place to live.”

Marty, who had his own disco called The Fantasy Sound and later 5705, re-lived the days of Banwells, Chelsea Cat, Rum Runner and Ruperts in the South Tyneside area.

He also played at Fusion and Heroes in the Sunderland area and was once a resident DJ in Woolworths where he did the announcements.

He even once did a disco outside Marsden Grotto in 1987 and has DJed all over the world.

Martin is a widely travelled man who has enjoyed times in Switzerland, Germany and Norway but South Tyneside and Sunderland hold a special place in his heart.

The Cleadon-born 64-year-old who lived in Quarry Lane, now lives in Norway but still hosts a radio show on Koast Radio in Northumberland.

“I was the DJ at all of the clubs in the 80s. I left Banwells and worked as an international DJ in Switzerland and Germany.”

We would love to hear from Sunderland and South Tyneside people who now live in Norway. We would also love to hear from readers who are following every move of the Three Lions journey in America.
