Today in evidence, Johnson told jurors that he "has never" shaved his pubic hair as jurors were shown a picture of his groin area.He admitted that he sometimes "trimmed" the area to tidy it up and ensure it did not grow too much.In her own evidence, the girl involved in the case said that Johnson's groin area was shaved.

Johnson also said that he gave the girl, a huge Sunderland fan, his personal mobile number after becoming attracted to her.

He agreed with his barrister, Orlando Pownall QC, that he was seeking sexual activity with her from the start.

Mr Pownall said: "Is it from the very beginning that you were attracted to her and wanted to have some sort of sexual relationship with her?"

"Yes," Johnson replied.

The court has already heard that Johnson and the girl kissed at their second meeting, and that a third meeting was arranged.

But Johnson today claimed in evidence that he had never intended to meet her again, and that communications between the two of them had started to die down.

Earlier in the trial, the court heard that when Johnson reportedly cancelled a third meeting rumours started to spread about him and the girl.

She then confided in her parents that same night.

Johnson admitted in evidence that he tried to "play down" the kiss between him and the girl when interviewed after his arrest.

He said: "I didn't want the police seeing how bad it was. I was trying to play it down. I was embarrassed and panicking and it was all thrown on me very quickly."

After being released on bail, Johnson went straight to his parents' home, where girlfriend Stacey was waiting.

The footballer said he told her everything and added: "I can't describe how hard it was and how bad it was for her."

Johnson described that he was in turmoil during his first police interview when he told a number of lies to officers.

The footballer didn't divulge the extent of messages between himself and the girl, and also denied that he intended anything sexual to happen between them.

He admitted these untruths today and said: "I was panicking and I had all these thoughts going through my mind about everything. My career, my family and I was honestly in turmoil."

The case continues. More follows.
