Adam Johnson owned animal pornography and sexually-transmitted infection medication, court was told

Former England footballer Adam Johnson has been jailed for six years for engaging in sexual activity with a besotted 15-year-old fan after a judge was told he was also arrested for possessing extreme pornography.

After Johnson was jailed at Bradford Crown Court, restrictions were lifted which have prevented the reporting of the 28-year-old's arrest in relation to alleged extreme pornographic images, thought to be animal-related, found on his computer.

The arrest was mentioned in hearings at Durham Crown Court prior to Johnson's trial. Durham Police confirmed he has now been released from his bail in relation to this matter and no further action will be taken.

It is understood the images found on the computer were of a "jokey" nature.

The pre-trial hearings also heard how police found medicines in a safe when Johnson was arrested which indicated he may have been suffering from sexually transmitted infections.

At the pre-trial hearing held at Durham Crown Court in August, which was the subject of reporting restrictions at the time, prosecutor Kate Blackwell QC said: "During the search of the defendant's premises on March 2 this year, one or perhaps two types of medication were seized from the safe next to the bedroom.

"These were prescribed to the defendant, indicating he may have been suffering from one or two sexually transmitted infections at the time these acts took place."

She added a photograph had been found belonging to Johnson which appeared to show an infected penis in a message between himself and his girlfriend.

Miss Blackwell said this could be seen as an aggravating factor in terms of contact between Johnson and the girl in relation to the fourth count, which he was found not guilty of at trial.

Johnson was asked to provide medical records in connection with his treatment

At the time, Judge Christopher Prince said: "This could be an issue in relation to sentence, but not a relative issue to be determined and I don't think it needs to be addressed now."

In specifying reporting restrictions, he said any reference to medical records could not be reported.

He said: “I have no objections to the media reporting that there was a pre-trial hearing today, at which a number of administrative and legal issues were addressed."

He added no other points could be reported.
