Adam Johnson text 'that's ages lol' after asking when girl would turn 16, court hears

The complainant in the case, who is a girl under 16 and cannot be named for legal reasons, told jurors that the winger got in contact with her and offered to give her a signed shirt.

A pre-recorded interview with the girl was played to the court today as part of her evidence.

The girl, a self-confessed Sunderland fan, said it was "surreal" to have her favourite player get in touch - and she said they met up twice in County Durham.

At the first meeting, the girl said she got into Johnson's black Range Rover where, as previously arranged, he gave her a signed football shirt.

The pair talked about football, she said, and a further meeting was arranged after WhatsApp messages were exchanged between them.

Johnson initiated the meeting, the girl said, and asked her if he was going to get a "thank you kiss" for the signed shirt.

Both meetings took place in the same month, less than two weeks apart.

While in his car during the second meeting, Johnson asked the girl for his "thank you kiss", she said.

In evidence, the court heard that Johnson took off his seatbelt and leaned over to initiate the kiss with her.

The girl continued: "I was kissing him for quite a while and he undid the button on my trousers, and then he undid the zip - it took him quite a while to do that.

"He got his hand down my trousers."

Johnson also tried to put the girl's hand down his trousers, she said.

In interview, the girl said that she "knew what was going to happen" because of messages that Johnson had sent her prior to the second meeting.

The ex-SAFC winger had told her he wanted "more than a thank you kiss" and she said she had replied "maybe".

Johnson knew her age, the girl told police in interview, as he had asked her when her 16th birthday was.

When she told him the date, he replied to her message and said: "That's ages LOL."

The girl said she told her father about what had happened after a number of her friends and other people found out.

She added: "I didn't want anything to be done about it, I just wanted to leave it but my mam said what he had done was wrong."
