He said: “On the evidence of tonight, and the evidence of Saturday, there’s now a togetherness which wasn’t the case a few weeks ago.

“Three points on Saturday and a point tonight...they have given themselves an opportunity.

“It was important not to lose that game tonight.

“Every single player gave their all tonight. On tonight’s evidence, they are certainly with him (Benitez).

“There’s a little bit of hope now which wasn’t there a few weeks ago.”
