Family Gateway, formerly Tyne Gateway, has been handed £8,000 from the Big Lottery’s Celebrate Fund to put on events aimed at bringing people together and to celebrate the community where they live.

The event will also give the charity, which supports families living in disadvantaged areas, the chance to boost its profile.

A fun day in South Tyneside will take place on June 10 at Hebburn Hub, in Glen Street, from 10am, while a second event will be held in North Shields on a different date.

Pauline Wonders, strategic director, said: “The events are all about getting people of all ages together and celebrating our communities.

“Hebburn is such a lovely little community with a lot of heritage, which is why we decided to hold one of our events here.

“During the event there will be different activities on which will give young people the chance to try out different games played by the older generation.
