Better with no lights

I've been reading the article about the Lindisfarne/John Reid Road roundabouts. I've lived in South Shields all my life and travel to and from the Team Valley every day for the past 25 years.

I fully agree with the article. Yes, something had to change but over recent weeks the lights at the bottom of John Reid Road have been switched off completely as they prepare to move them. This has made a huge impact on the traffic flow, for the better.

My commute takes me through these two roundabouts any time between 6.45am and 7.30am, then again between 5pm and 6pm, this had been taking around 20 minutes regardless of time. Since the light have been turned of I’m down to literally two minutes, it is staggering.

I’ve informed the council on several occasions, and they have said they “take my observations on board”. You can sit and watch from the comfort of your desk by logging onto the traffic camera network. If you monitor the flow now, then see what a disaster it will turn into once the lights go on.
