Blue badges are abused

Four years ago I had a letter printed in the Gazette about drivers who abuse the blue badge.

Many disabled people rely on their blue badges to go shopping, but at Hebburn you have no chance of parking in a disabled bay after 5pm because of other non-blue badge holders taking up the spaces.

Just before Christmas, on a night of very heavy rain, it was sad to see a disabled couple struggling with their trolley trying to get to the car park at the back of Asda.

All the disabled bays were full of non-blue badge drivers.

It’s a disgrace. I believe the blame lies with South Tyneside Council.

Newcastle Council is taking action against these drivers and our council should do the same.
