Boat brought back to shore with help of South Shields rescue team after break down

A South Shields team joined in a rescue effort launched after a boat broke down.

Members of the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) were alerted by the HM Coastguard’s base on Humberside while the Cullercoats RNLI Lifeboat team helped the casualty vessel with a tow back into the River Tyne.

They were asked to rendezvous at the boat moorings in River Drive for the callout, which happened just after 1pm today, Saturday, November 7.

They worked to assist their colleagues and help those who had been on the boat back onto dry land.

A spokesperson for the SSVLB said: “The team stood by until the occupants were safely ashore, they informed us that they had suffered battery problems and were unable to start their engine.

"We informed Humber who were happy to stand us down at 2.17pm.

"Remember for all Coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
