Cable fault sparks power cut in South Shields
A cable fault is believed to have been behind a power cut affecting almost 300 properties in South Tyneside.
Parts of Tyne Dock in South Shields were plunged into darkness after a power cut hit the area at around 4.30pm, today.
Properties were affected for around 40 minutes as work to restore electricity was carried out.

Hide AdA spokeswoman for Northern Powergrid said: “We were made aware of a fault which affected 293 customers at 4.24pm. We managed to restore power to 76 of those customers using out tele-control facility. The remaining 217 customers had power restored by 5.04pm.
“We believe it was caused by a fault in a cable in the underground network.”
