Carry on star was true icon
Sid’s film debut was in Black Memory and he appeared in many British movies, BBC and independent television shows over the decades. His work included The Small Black Room, Last Holiday, The Lavender Hill Mob, East End West End, Hancock’s Half Hour, Juke Box Jury, 19 Carry On Films, The Extra Day, George and the Dragon, Two in Clover, The Bruce Forsyth Show, Make Mine A Million, Two Many Crooks, What A Whopper and The Man In Black.
He worked with stars such as Bill Owen, William Hartnell, John Pertwee, George Cole, Alastair Sim, Liz Fraser, Joan Sims, Lionel Jeffries, Patrick McGoohan, Roger Moore, Richard Greene, Anne Aubrey, Adam Faith and Cliff Richard to name but a few.
Sadly, on Monday, April 26, 1976, he collapsed on stage during the performance of The Mating Season at the Sunderland Empire Theatre, and he passed away at the age of 62.
He was the wonderful great British actor and comedian star icon, the late Sid James.
