RSPCA officers and fire crews rushed to South Shields this week after the moggy was caught on a railing in Horsley Vale on Saturday.

Thankfully, when they arrived it became apparent that while the long-haired cat, named Tinker, seemed to be impaled on the metal railing, it was actually just her fur which had got tangled.

RSPCA inspector Jaqui Miller said: “It looked like the metal pole was going straight through the cat’s body but, when we took a closer look, it was just her coat that was caught.

“Somehow, Tinker managed to get her fur caught in a break in the metal and, after panicking, has twisted the hair around and around getting herself completely stuck.

“We couldn’t free her there so we had to take her and the metal pole to the vet to cut her loose.

“Luckily, for Tinker she hadn’t suffered any serious injuries and her microchip meant we were able to reunite her with her worried owner - who lived just a few doors away from where she was found.

“In this case she was certainly Tinker by name and a little tinker by nature!”
