Kieran Maughan has shared CCTV footage of his vehicle being broken into in the hope that someone will recognise the culprits.

The 19-year-old’s car was parked outside his home in Ayr Drive, Jarrow, when it was broken into in the early hours of Monday.

CCTV captured by his neighbour appears to show two men taking tools from the car before making off on bicycles at 4.40am.

Kieran, who is nearing the end of his apprenticeship with construction company Carillion, saved up for more than a year to buy the tools, some of which he hadn’t even had the chance to use yet.

He discovered the robbery when he was leaving for work at 6.30am.

The former Jarrow School pupil said: “The tools were worth up to £1,000 and I saved up for over a year to buy them all. I had a jigsaw, ripsaw, hammer drill, impact drill, and lots of other tools.

“They also took the sat nav which I use to get to and from jobs. I went out at 6.30am to go to work and realised someone had been in the car so I checked the boot and all my tools were gone.

“They’d left a spirit level and my tool box but everything else was gone. I’d only just bought some of them and hadn’t even used them yet.

“There was no sign on the car or anything to make anyone believe there were tools inside.”

When Kieran completes his apprenticeship, he is hoping to get a job as a joiner and perhaps set up his own business in the future, but he won’t be able to do any of that without his own tools.

Kieran added: “I was just really disappointed and angry when I realised my tools had been stolen because I’ve saved up to buy them and now they’re just gone.

“I didn’t have them insured or anything and I don’t expect to get them back, they’ll be gone by now, so that’s it, I’ll just have to buy them all again.

“It feels horrible that someone has done this to me and I’m just hoping someone will recognise them from the CCTV and they’ll be caught.”

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after tools were stolen from a car in Ayr Drive, Jarrow.
