Celebration for residents after road repair in Jarrow


Work has been carried out on resurfacing Medway Road, in Calf Close, Jarrow.
Cash for the work was provided by the Jarrow and Boldon Community Area Forum (CAF) after a number of people had complained about the condition of the road.

Hide AdCoun Alan Smith said: “We use our annual residents’ survey and feedback from our community to direct CAF cash to the areas that matter most to them.
“I’m delighted that we are able to act upon their wishes, where possible.”
This scheme is the first of a number across the ward, with works planned on each of three estates.

Hide AdWhile the Fellgate estate will have its ‘black path’ which runs centrally through the estate, via the two schools and shopping area, repaired.

She said: “I would like to say a big thank you to our councillors for the help given in getting our road repaired.”
During the next financial year, the Jarrow and Boldon CAF will have £108,228 to spend on environmental initiatives.
The forum will have £226,880 to use on housing initiatives.

Hide AdWhile £33,500 has been earmarked to be spent on social schemes – groups can apply for up to £1,000 for projects providing a long-term benefit.
While applications for £500 can be made for a one- off event.
