Charity supporting bereaved youngsters launches recruitment drive

Cruse Bereavement Care Tyneside has 15 places available for its ‘Awareness in Children’s Bereavement Care’ course.

Those who gain a place will be trained in counselling skills – accredited by Ascentis – to enable them to support bereaved children and young people in South Tyneside, Gateshead and Newcastle.

Sue Clarke, Cruse support worker, said: “Research has shown that bereaved children fare much better at school and in the future with skilled and timely intervention after a major bereavement.”

The course will be delivered part-time at weekends during May and July at a venue in Newcastle. It will cost £250 – however, bursaries are available to those willing to commit 100 hours of support after training.

Those wishing to apply must have had at least 100 hours of experience with children in either a paid or volunteer capacity, full-time or part-time. Deadline is April 25. The South Tyneside venue was opened last year at Cleadon Park PCT after The Cruse Crew raised the £30,000 needed to bring the service to the borough.
