Christmas council closures: Your guide to what's open and when in South Tyneside over the festive holidays

South Tyneside Council has announced Christmas opening times and closure dates for major buildings in the borough.

The following sites will close from 4.30pm on Friday, December 23 and reopen on Tuesday, January 3:

*South Shields Town Hall

* Jarrow Town Hall

* Day centres

* All libraries

* Landreth House

* Star Centre

* STANLEY Day Care

* Children’s Centres

* Riverside Customer Service Centre

* Simonside Outdoor Adventure

Jarrow Hub will close at 6pm on December 23 and will reopen as normal on January 3.

Temple Park Centre, Jarrow Community Hub and Monkton Stadium will close at 3pm on Saturday, December 24 and will reopen as normal on January 3.

Haven Point leisure complex at South Shields seafront and Hebburn Central will only be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. However opening and closing times will vary..

The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in South Shields, will only be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. From December 24 until January 2 it will be open from 10am until 4pm and will resume normal opening hours from January 3.

Emergency and essential services will be maintained over the Christmas and New Year period. Contact numbers include:

The Customer Contact Centre will be taking calls as usual on 424 7000, but at the following times:

* Saturday, December 24, from 9am to 1pm

* Wednesday, December 28, from 8am to 8pm

* Thursday, December 29, from 8am to 8pm

* Friday, December 30, from 8am to 8pm

* Saturday, December 31, from 9am to 1pm

The Customer Contact Centre will close at 1pm on December 24 and will reopen on December 28. It will then close at 1pm on December 31 and will reopen as normal on January 3.
