Christmas lights switch on attracts the crowds in Hebburn
Families packed out the town’s Fountain Park to celebrate the official countdown to Christmas.
Youngsters from St Aloysius RC School entertained the crowds with a selection of carols before Mister Merlin took to the stage to perform a range of magic tricks.
Out in the crowd, winter inspired characters designed by the Creative Seed walked among the visitors who were braving the chilly weather.
Parents and grandparents joined in the official countdown before Customa House executive director Ray Spencer - joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside Coun Olive Punchion and Mary French - pressed the button lighting the park up in an array of festive sparkle and lights.
There was even a special appearance by the main man himself Santa Claus.
Coun Punchion said: “It was great seeing so many faces turn out to celebrate the start of Christmas in Hebburn.
“The children were fantastic,it was lovely to see their little faces light up when Santa came to the stage.
“Christmas is such a magical time of the year and it’s great that we are able to out on events like this for the families in the borough.
“It really is a great event.”
