Comnedian Jason Cook to raise a laugh for charity

Jason Cook, the comedian behind the hit BBC2 comedy Hebburn, will be doing his bit to raise money for charity with a gig on the beach at Tynemouth this weekend.

The comic has been announced as the entertainment for The Shamrock Party, which is taking place at Crusoes tomorrow.

Jason, from Hebburn in South Tyneside, will be taking to the stage following an ambitious attempt to break the world record for the largest human shamrock.

The current record stands at 815, and Blackswan, the Tynemouth-based consultancy firm behind the fundraising day, is looking for 1,000 people to take part in the attempt to smash the record, all while raising money for St Oswald’s Hospice and Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Jason said: “The record attempt is going to be such good fun, and it’ll combine what we in the North East are great at - having a good laugh and helping others.

“My dad had to use a hospice when he was on his way out and I wrote a special comedy show about it that won awards all over the world so it’ll be especially appropriate to be doing it at this event.

“Everyone should come down, take part to break a record and raise a lot of money for charity.”

Registration to take part in the record attempt costs £1, which will go to charity.

Alongside the record attempt there will be a 2.5km and 5km fun run, dog fancy dress competition, Ceilidh, Irish dancing and football.
