Councillor's driving ban appeal adjourned

A South Tyneside councillor’s bid to overturn an 18-month driving ban has been adjourned.

Cleadon and East Boldon ward member Jeff Milburn was convicted of failing to provide a breath specimen at South Tyneside Magistrate’s court last January.

He denied the charge, but was convicted after trial, and handed the ban alongside a 12-month community order as well as being ordered to pay £620 costs and a £90 surcharge.

His solicitor, Geoffery Forrester, told the court he would be appealing against both the conviction and sentence.

The appeal was listed at Newcastle Crown Court, Friday, January 8, but was adjourned for mention on February 4.
