Cleadon and East Boldon ward member Jeff Milburn was convicted of failing to provide a breath specimen at South Tyneside Magistrate’s court last January.

He denied the charge, but was convicted after trial, and handed the ban alongside a 12-month community order as well as being ordered to pay £620 costs and a £90 surcharge.

His solicitor, Geoffery Forrester, told the court he would be appealing against both the conviction and sentence.
