Diesel, described in court documents as a white male Akita, trapped a mixed-breed terrier on the ground before unsuccessfully chasing it after it was initially restrained.

The incident, which took place in Cleadon Park, South Shields, resulted in the Akita’s owner being charged and taken to court under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court has also imposed a contingent destruction order as part of the sentence.

This means that Diesel will be destroyed unless it:

Wears a flat collar fastened with a metal buckle when in a public place; Wears a body harness whenever in a public place; Is walked by a fixed-length security lead no more than three metres long; Wears a muzzle in a public place which allows it to pant, drink or eat treats through; Undertakes six sessions with a qualified dog behaviourist within six months to modify its behaviour in relation to other dogs.

This last condition is also aimed at assisting Jahrami in controlling Diesel.
