Sergeant Phil Smailes, of Northumbria Police, said: “It is our understanding these sunglasses belong to residents living in the Hebburn area who may have recently had their vehicles broken into.

“I am now asking anybody who believes they may belong to them – and who has recently been a victim of crime – to come forward and get in touch with us.

“Quite often with incidents of this nature, opportunistic criminals go street-to-street trying car doors looking for any vehicle that has been left unlocked. If it is locked, they will move on to the next street.

“We would therefore ask residents to make sure their cars remain locked, and that any valuable items are placed out of sight in the glove box or boot. By working together, we can reduce the risk of thieves benefiting for purely selfish gains.

“Our officers are out patrolling the streets every single day targeting thieves who look to wreak misery on others. If you’ve been a victim of crime, or see anybody acting suspiciously in your area, please get in touch and report it.”
