Here are eight people jailed or given suspended sentences for offences in or around South Tyneside during the month.
They all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.

5. Carl Wilson
Wilson, 34, of Tadema Road, South Shields, pleaded guilty to offences of common assault of an emergency worker and possession of an offensive weapon at South Tyneside Magistrates Court. 6. Grant Bourn
Bourn, 39, of Palm Avenue, South Shields, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and controlled drug, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. 7. Rodney Main
Main, 52, of Coleridge Avenue, South Shields, admitted controlling and coercive behaviour. He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with rehabilitation requirements and 250 hours unpaid work with a lifelong restraining order. Photo: NOP

8. Buzz Smith
Buzz Smith, of Shields Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing Actual Bodily Harm and one count of theft at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to 28 months in jail at Newcastle Crown Court today, Tuesday, January 31. Photo: NOP
