Four people in police custody after police incident which stopped Metros in South Shields

Northumbria Police has confirmed that four people remain in custody following an incident in South Shields which saw Metro trains suspended for around 40 minutes.

Services were halted between Bede and South Shields on Tuesday, June 23 while police investigated a disturbance in the Ryton Court area of town.

Officers arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage on Tuesday, with a spokeswoman for the force telling the Gazette on Wednesday, June 24 that four people remain in custody.

She added: “Investigations continue.”
