Reece Andrew Nixon pleaded guilty to using threatening abusive or insulting words or behaviour to threaten another person with intent to cause that person to believe immediate unlawful violence would be used against him when he appeared before magistrates.

The court heard the offence related to an incident on Monday, March 15, when Nixon, 24, was confronted by a neighbour over loud music playing from his flat in Arnold Street, Boldon Colliery, in the early hours of the morning.

After a verbal altercation between the pair, Nixon emerged from his home swinging a golf club in an aggressive manner.

Magistrates at North Northumbria Magistrates Court, sitting at North Shields, jailed him for ten weeks and said the seriousness of the offence had been aggravated by the use of a weapon.

Nixon was also jailed for a further eight weeks, to run consecutively, for an offence of driving while disqualified.

He had been stopped by police while driving a car in North Tyneside on Tuesday, April 20. The officers were aware that he had been previously disqualified for a year on March 12 and he was arrested at the scene.

He subsequently pleaded guilty at first hearing to both offences.

Nixon was also convicted of offences of driving without a valid licence and using a vehicle without insurance in October last year, but no separate penalties were imposed.
