Knife-wielding robber snatches cash from South Shields shop after threatening staff

A shopworker was threatened with a knife during a daylight robbery on a busy Post Office and convenience store.

The hunt is underway to trace the raider, who struck at Costcutter in Dickens Avenue, Biddick Hall, South Shields, which is also known as Carter’s Newsgent and has its own Post Office counter.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 3.23pm on Saturday April 25, we received a report of a robbery at the Post Office on Dickens Avenue, South Shields.

“It was reported that a man had entered the premises in possession of a knife and threatened a staff member, before stealing a quantity of money from the till and safe.

“The offender then made off from the scene.

“The victim was shaken but uninjured.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident and inquiries are ongoing.
