Live updates: Pictures from scene of South Shields murder investigation as police make arrest

Detectives have launched a murder investigation in South Shields following the death of a man at a property in the town.

Officers were called to Victoria Road in South Shields shortly before 4am today – Tuesday, May 12 – following a report of concern for a man at a property there.

On arrival, emergency services discovered an unresponsive man inside the address, who had suffered injuries consistent with a bladed article. The injured man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police then arrested a 23-year-old man, who was also inside the property and believed to be known to the victim, on suspicion of murder. Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.

Detectives at Northumbria Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
