Man arrested on suspicion of attempting to meet girl after Guardians of the North alert

A man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to meet a girl after grooming her following a call to police from the Guardians of the North.

Northumbria Police has confirmed it took the 33-year-old man into custody following a post by the group which said it had contacted officers from The Nook area of South Shields on Sunday, November 29.

A force spokesperson said: “At 9.25pm on Sunday we received a call from a male who stated he was a member of Guardians of The North.

“The caller reported that a 33-year-old male had been attempting to meet two 14-year-old girls in South Tyneside.

“Officers attended the scene and the male was arrested on suspicion of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

"He has since been released on police bail.”
