Man charged with murder after Leam Lane suspected stabbing

Daryl Fowler, 28, was found unconscious in the street in the Leam Lane Estate on Friday evening after he suffered injuries consistent with a stabbing.
Sadly he died in hospital later that evening despite the best efforts of medical staff.

Hide AdEnquiries into the circumstances around his death have been ongoing throughout the weekend but police said a man has now been charged with Mr Fowler’s murder.
Lee Wall, 43, of Chevington, in the Leam Lane Estate, has been charged with murder and will appear before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Emma Alexander Brown, 39, also of Chevington, has been charged with assisting an offender and will appear at the same court tomorrow.
A 30-year-old woman arrested yesterday has since been released with no further action.

Hide AdMr Fowler's family earlier paid tribute to the 28-year-old after he was officially identified by police.
In a statement they said: “We are totally devastated at our loss of Daryl. He is going to be such a big miss.
"Our hearts are breaking right now, we would appreciate that you will let us grieve in privacy thank you.”
Northumbria Police said specialist officers continue to support Mr Fowler’s family at this difficult time and enquiries into his death will continue.

Hide AdDetective Inspector Graeme Dodds, of the force’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said on Sunday morning that enquiries into the incident continue.
He said: “It is tragic that someone has lost their life and our officers will continue to offer Daryl’s family all the support they need. We would that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
“Our cordon has been reduced but police will remain in the area today to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the local community.“We would continue to ask anyone who has information that may assist police to contact us by calling 101 or reporting it through our website.”
Anyone who has information about the suspected assault is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1097 11/09/20.
