Police are appealing to the public after a teenager was found with serious injuries in South Tyneside.

Northumbria Police have issued an appeal for information after a teenager was found injured in South Tyneside on Wednesday, May 15.

Officers received a report of concern for a man at around 6.10am yesterday (Wednesday), who was understood to be walking along the side of the A19, close to the south entrance of the Tyne Tunnel, in Jarrow.

Emergency services attended the scene and located a 17-year-old on the cycle track that runs close to Salcombe Avenue.

Police have stated that the teenager had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment - he remains there in a serious condition.

Officers have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed.

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the report - with the cause of the teenager’s injures currently being treated as “unexplained”.

Police are asking for any witnesses who may have saw the male in the Jarrow area during the early hours, and for anyone with further information, to come forward.

Officers are keen to hear from any passing motorists who were driving in the area at the time who might have dashcam footage, as well as anyone who might have CCTV or doorbell footage.
