Police give update on incident in South Shields' Prince Edward Road as enquiries continue

One man has been released on bail and another released under investigation as enquiries continue over an incident in Prince Edward Road in South Shields.

Police were called to an address in the busy street on Sunday, March 14, after reports of damage to the property, and a cordon was in place in Gorse Avenue and Prince Edward Road on Monday, March 15.

Two men aged 27 and 48 were arrested on Wednesday, March 17, on suspicion of possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear. Police said searches were taking place at a number of addresses in the area.

In a statement today, Monday, March 22, Northumbria Police said: “The 27-year-old has been released on police bail, while the 48-year-old man released under investigation. Enquiries are ongoing.”
