Police staff member who breached covid regulations and lied about test result among latest Northumbria Police misconduct cases

The force shares details of the proceedings in its commitment to “to transparency and accountability”, detailing their position, details of the allegation and the outcome of the hearing or meeting.

Their identity is not revealed.

Recent hearings included a staff member on the grounds of honesty and integrity following allegations during lockdown, she falsely stated she lived at an address she was attending and said she had been tested for Covid-19 the previous day, falsely claiming the result was negative.

She was given a final written warning.

A force spokesperson said: “We expect officers and staff to maintain the highest standards at all times and if anyone is found to have fallen below these we are committed to taking appropriate action.

“This particular incident occurred in the early stages of lockdown where national guidance placed greater emphasis on officers engaging with the public, explaining the restrictions and encouraging people to follow the regulations, before enforcement action was taken as a last resort.

“We can confirm the staff member was provided with the appropriate advice from the attending officers.”

Other cases dealt with in November were:

*A staff member was sacked following discreditable conduct and a breach of confidentiality after allegations of inappropriate comments and language and disclosing confidential information police held to staff in shops.

*A constable was subject to proceedings regarding confidentiality following an allegation they disclosed information relating to vehicle break-ins in an email to their partner, leading to a written warning.

*A constable’s discreditable conduct was considered after a claim while driving a marked car, it was involved in a collision and that their driving fell below the expected standard.

They were ordered to follow reflective practice.

*A staff member’s work and responsibilities and honesty and integrity was put under the spotlight following an allegation they failed to manage and conduct audits in compliance with national recommendations.

There was also an allegation they provided a knowingly inaccurate report to the information security manager.

They were given a final written warning.

*A constable was given a written warning following an allegation they accessed incidents on police computer systems without a policing purpose and made an amendment to a diary appointment without authority from supervision.
