Sex assault investigation launched after woman is grabbed on Jarrow street

Detectives have launched an inquiry into a sex attack after a woman was grabbed as she walked along a Jarrow street.

Northumbria Police is carrying out inquiries after the incident happened on the evening of Wednesday, November 25.

A force spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.15pm on November 25 we received a report of a sexual assault in the Dene Terrace area of Jarrow.

“It was reported that a woman was walking along the road when she was approached by a man she did not know.

“The man is reported to have then squeezed her bottom from behind before running off in the direction of York Avenue.

"The victim was uninjured but left shaken by the incident.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident."

It is understood the inquiry is not being linked to other investigations in the borough.
