South Shields man jailed after attacking woman and stealing Ferrero Rocher chocolates

A man who attacked a woman as part of a string of offences has been jailed.

Christopher Dean Sharp, 33, of Stanhope Road, South Shields, is beginning more than four months in prison after he pleaded guilty to eight charges at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

They included separate offences of assaulting his victim and stealing her mobile phone at an address in the town on July 19.

In doing so, he admitted a third count of breaching the terms of a previous restraining order by attending the same property.

Sharp also pleaded guilty to the theft of £23.98 of baby milk on September 18 last year and stealing £48 of Ferrero Rocher chocolates from Sainsbury’s Stanhope Road store on June 20.

In addition, he admitted breaching the terms of a community order imposed as part of a previous court conviction in February by failing to attend scheduled appointments.

He also pleaded guilty to causing harassment, alarm or distress in South Shields on June 8 and resisting a police officer in the course of their duty after they attended his home on July 21.

The court jailed him for 18 weeks in total on Wednesday after “after taking into account all offending before the court today plus the fact he has not complied with his community order”.

He was also ordered to repay the entire value of the two thefts at a rate of £10 a week from the middle of November.
