Martin Robert Urwin, 38, of Marshall Wallis Road, South Shields, is beginning six weeks in prison after admitting causing criminal damage to a glass pane contained within a set of £9,668 automatic doors at telecommunications giant BT’s complex at Harton Quay, in South Shields.

He was jailed at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court earlier this week after the court considered the offence so serious because he “refuses to comply with any non-custodial options”.

Urwin, who admitted committing the offence on July 19, was also handed two one-week concurrent prison terms, which he will serve as part of his six-week sentence, after admitting failing to surrender to bail on both August 19 and September 25.
