South Shields motorist caught drink driving at McDonald's

A motorist was caught drink driving in the grounds of a McDonald’s restaurant only weeks after committing a similar offence.

Nathaniel James Wooden has received a suspended jail sentence after admitting both crimes and five other charges.

Wooden, 30, of Warkworth Avenue, South Shields, admitted to firstly drink driving in the town’s Mill Dam on October 25.

He also pleaded guilty to driving without a valid licence and to possessing cocaine on the same date as well as failing to surrender to custody on November 25.

Wooden then admitted drink driving at McDonald’s, in Byker, Newcastle, on December 21 and to driving while disqualified and without insurance on the same date.

North Tyneside Magistrates Court imposed a 12-week jail term, which was suspended for 18 months, criticising his “blatant disregard for court orders”.

Yet the court decided against imprisoning him outright after hearing about his “significant life pressures”.

He was also banned from driving for 42 months and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
