Three people have been arrested on suspicion of blackmail after a man was believed to be held against his will in South Shields.

Police were called to an address on Saturday, April 11, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

On arrival officers believed a man was being kept at the address against his will by individuals who were known to him.

The victim has been safeguarded and three people have been arrested on suspicion of blackmail.

The three arrested – two men aged 30 and 21 and one woman, aged 33 – have since been released under investigation.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “At 12.04pm on Saturday, April 11, police were called out to a report of concern for the welfare of a male at an address in South Shields.

“Officers attended and believed a man was being kept at the address against his will by individuals who were known to him.

“Two men aged 30 and 21 and one woman, aged 33, were arrested on suspicion of blackmail and have since been released under investigation and the victim has been safeguarded.”
