Two men have been charged with offences after an incident which brought Metro services to a halt in South Shields.

Officers attended the Ryton Court area of the town on Tuesday, June 23 following reports of a ‘disturbance’, which led to Metros being halted between South Shields and Bede stations.

Services were stopped for around 40 minutes while officers carried out inquiries in the area.

An update from police on Friday, June 26 confirmed two men have been charged with a number of offences.

A spokeswoman for the force told the Gazette: “Following a disturbance in South Shields on Tuesday, three people were arrested and released under investigation while two men aged 35 and 37 have been charged.

“The 37-year-old has been charged with GBH and attempting to resist arrest.”

“The 35-year-old has been charged with possession of drugs.”
