Police previously warned the public to avoid Temple Memorial Park, in South Shields, and Cleadon Hills. The searches in these areas have now concluded.
But the hunt continues to find the man, who is aged in his late 50s, and was last seen wearing a camouflage brown and black jacket with black jeans, brown boots and a brown hunting style hat.
Earlier today (March 25), armed officers were seen searching Cleadon Hills near the Marsden Old Quarry nature reserve.
Footage shows the police helicopter circling above Cleadon Hills during the search.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 1am today (Wednesday) we received a report of an assault at a property in Whitburn, where the suspect has fled the scene.

“The male, aged in his late 50s, was last seen wearing a camouflage brown and black jacket with black jeans, brown boots and a brown hunting style hat.
“Anyone already in the area and who sees a man matching that description should not approach him and should contact police on 999 quoting incident number 28 of today (Wednesday.)”
