Woman arrested after being spotted by a neighbour in a South Tyneside street carrying a kitchen knife

The bizarre behaviour of Aimee Donaldson, 28, of Oban Street, Jarrow, led a concerned neighbour to contact police and she was quickly arrested on Friday, June 28.

Donaldson has now appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to admit a charge of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

The court heard the incident happened after Donaldson had taken drugs.

Magistrates, who adjourned the case for reports ahead of sentencing, heard the starting point for the crime is six months imprisonment.

Despite being represented by a solicitor, Donaldson told magistrates: “I was just fearing for my life, I’m not a drug taker.

“I was fearing for my life, I was so scared.”

Prosecutor Paul Anderson told the court: “It’s a witness who seems to be a neighbour of this young lady.

“She described seeing this young lady walking outside her front door, carrying a kitchen knife.

“She goes across the road and knocks on the front door. There is no answer and she goes home with the knife in her hand.

“Officers attend and she was acting in a bizarre manner. She said that she had taken drugs.

“She said that she was out of line, and she will find how much out of line when you get the report.”

Alastair Robson, chair of the bench, told Donaldson: “We can’t proceed today without a report.

“This will help you and your case. These reports are all-options reports.

“You have to behave yourself, and we’ll be disappointed if we see you before your court appearance.”

Donaldson was granted unconditional bail to appear at the same court for sentencing on Tuesday, July 28.
