Young woman left shaken after 'frightful' sex attack near Metro station
A young woman has been left shaken after a man grabbed her bottom as she walked close to a Metro station.
The woman was on the phone to her mother as she headed to meet her friend and catch a train from Jarrow station when a hooded man ran up from behind her and grabbed her bottom, before he jogged off laughing.
The ordeal, which happened at 6.45pm on Monday, November 2, on Railway Street, has left her shaken.
Northumbria Police has issued an appeal for information as the victim looks for help to catch her attacker.
The woman, whose identity is protected as a victim of a sexual assault, said: “I knew exactly what time it happened because I was on the phone to my mam at the time.
"It was frightful and I’m a bit worried about being by myself now.
"I was going to meet my friend just before lockdown and I had just got past the trees.
"I heard someone jogging and then he grabbed by bottom and I pushed him off.
"I shouted at him and he continued jogging. He didn’t seem bothered and I’m just worried what would happen if no one was around.”
She has described the man as being 5ft 10in tall.
He was wearing a red hoodie and black shorts, which had three white stripes down the sides, and had thin legs.
Northumbria Police has launched an investigation and has urged anyone with information to get in touch via the Tell Us Something page of its website or by calling 101, quoting reference 903 031120.
