Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew eyes Newcastle United January raid
Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is eyeing a January raid for full-back Paul Dummett.
But the Crystal Palace manager could be priced out of a switch for the Newcastle United defender in the winter window.
Pardew is reported to be keen to add a left-sided defender to his ranks next month and has earmarked Wales international Dummett as a target.
Palace find themselves in a relegation battle at the bottom end of the Premier League table despite significant summer investment, which included nabbing England winger Andros Townsend from St James Park.
The club's poor start to the season has seen Pardew come under pressure - earlier this campaign the ex-United manager was even linked with the sack, with Palace sliding down the top flight table.
But Pardew is set to be backed in January by the Selhurst Park board.
And Dummett, who was handed his Premier League debut by Pardew in 2013, could be a player who the fits the bill for the Eagles.
The 25-year-old academy graduate was linked with a move to Palace in the summer, but remained on Tyneside, and has since become an integral part of Rafa Benitez's promotion-chasing side.
United and Benitez would be reluctant sellers of Dummett this winter, especially with left-back cover and summer signing Achraf Lazaar set to head to the African Cup of Nations with Morocco.
Under no pressure to let any of their players go, it could take a big money bid from Palace to prise Dummett away from United.
