Pupils from Keelman’s Way School in Hebburn put on their best dresses and suits to attend a prom organised by their teachers.

The event, at the Little Haven Hotel, is held each year for the school’s post-16s who are saying goodbye as they move onto pastures new.

Katharine Harbinson, class teacher for post-16s, said: “There were a lot of staff involved in organising the night for our pupils as we wanted to make it extra special for them.

“They have all worked hard throughout their time at Keelman’s and we wanted to give them a night to remember for the rest of their lives.

“The Little Haven Hotel went out of its way to make the night for our pupils and we can’t thank them enough.

“Everyone who attended had a great time and they all looked absolutely beautiful.

“They have been an outstanding year group and we will all be sorry to see them go.”

The night’s entertainment was provided by DJ Spikey with pupils receiving awards and certificates for their achievements.

Keelman’s Way School was opened in September 2012 following the closure of two former special schools, Oakleigh Gardens and Greenfields.

It provides education for children with severe, profound and complex learning needs from the early years through to secondary education.

It also has a post-16 department for these pupils and some additional students who have moderate learning difficulties.

During their time as a post-16 pupil they take part in work experience.
