Dog dies after tragic fall from cliffs near Souter Lighthouse
A dog has died after falling from the cliffs near Souter Lighthouse.
Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland RNLI were called to the scene near Souter Lighthouse shortly before 12pm on Sunday, December 20, to reports a dog had fallen over the edge.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “On arrival we set up our rope rescue equipment and lowered a rope rescue technician to recover the dog.
“Sadly on this occasion the dog had not survived the fall.”
