Dozens of jobs coming at two restaurant ventures in South Shields

Sharon Deehan revealed the double boost which will happen at the Waterfront in South Shields and at the Marsden Grotto pub.

Sharon, who owns both venues and who is backing this year’s Shields Gazette and Sunderland Echo WOW247 Awards, said both venues will be adding to their staff.

The Waterfront already boasts top-class Asian fusion food as well as serving cask and craft ales downstairs.

But also on the way is the Staithes House steak house upstairs, and the addition of the extra facility will see staff numbers rise from 10 now, to up to 20.

At Marsden, a grand re-opening is being planned for Good Friday and Sharon, who is also sole trader at the Lakeside Inn and Riverside in South Tyneside, said: “We are having a massive relaunch with DJ Adam Christie opening for us.”

A major refurbishment is under way and it includes plans for a second floor restaurant. Sharon added: “We are looking at it being a fish restaurant given its location to the sea. We are looking for a bit of fusion and there will be classic sea food with a twist.”

The venue currently has five staff but Sharon said: “We are looking for at least another 20 people.”

On top of the jobs boost, Sharon is also delighted to be on board with our competition.

She said: “It is great, especially for the community and it is good to recognise people.”

Our competition, which is now closed for entries, aims to find the best in South Tyneside and Wearside’s arts, culture, hospitality and leisure scene.

This year, the competition is backed by UK Asbestos Specialists (UKasl), The Marsden Grotto Private Beach and Downey’s Fish and Chip Restaurant in Roker and Seaham.

The Best Western Roker Hotel will host the finale of our competition – held in association with our weekly entertainments guide, Wow 24/7 – on Thursday, February 25.
