Drivers not mind readers

Is it just me or do other readers get annoyed with drivers who don't bother to use their indicators?

For myself, since I’m not telepathic, if a driver in front of me on the road, or approaching a junction that I am waiting to leave, fails to use his or her indicators to let other drivers know that they are going to turn then I am none the wiser.

This can mean that I’m not prepared for the deceleration and imminent turning manoeuvre of the car in front of me or, more annoyingly, the fact that I could have departed the junction I was waiting at if that car had indicated it was going to turn into it.

While there are always exceptions to a rule, I have noted that drivers of automatic cars are particularly prone to offending – being too lazy to use their indicators.

I accept that we can all be forgetful but I would make the failure to use indicators on roads where there are other cars present a motoring offence – two strikes and you’re hit with a fine and penalty points, three strikes and you have to attend a ‘use of indicators’ driver awareness course, four strike sand you have to take your driving test again.

My plea to other drivers is: Indicators are there to be used. They’re checked as part of the MOT test, please use them.

I’m glad to have got that off my chest and wonder what other readers think.
