Drunk woman found half naked by police in South Shields street

Police found a woman lying half naked, baring her breasts, in the centre of Westoe Road, South Shields.
A South Tyneside woman was found drunk and baring her breasts in the middle of a busy town centre road in the dead of night, a court heard.
Jay Clark, 30, stunned patrolling police by standing semi-naked in the centre of Westoe Road, South Shields, at 2.05am on Thursday, May 14.
Clark, of Leicester Way, Fellgate, Jarrow, had her trousers on but was also missing a trainer, prosecutor Jasmine Dodd said.
She had no explanation for baring her breasts
She gave police no explanation for her de-robing and at one point ran off towards the town centre, the borough’s magistrates’ court heard.
When caught up with, she began shouting and screaming and refused to explain the reason for her state of undress.
Clark failed to turn up for her day in court and was found guilty of a charge of being drunk and disorderly in public in her absence.
Ms Dodd told the hearing the evidence against Clark came from a police traffic patrol officer who was on duty and called to the location.
She said: “He says that at 2.05am he had cause to attend Westoe Road and he immediately sighted a female in the middle of the road.
“She had no top on and was baring her breasts, and she was also only wearing one shoe but had her bottoms on.
“She was unsteady on her feet and shouting and swearing. She ran along Westoe Road towards the town centre.
“The officer caught up with her and could smell intoxicating liquor on her breath. She continued to swear.
She tried to run away
“She then tried to run away and was shouting and swearing.
“The officers tried to find out from her what had happened, but she swore. They then tried to find her clothing.
“She continued to swear and was finally arrested for being drunk and disorderly. She made no significant reply. The crown would apply for costs.”
District Judge Zoe Passfield, who found the case against Clark proven, fined her £60 and ordered her to pay £85 court costs and a £24 victim surcharge.
The judge said the money would be added to an existing fines account Clark has with the court.
